SilverDell burst into life on the 8th June 2000, created by proprietors Elaine Silverwood and Sue Wardell. It is a unique establishment with the combination of an ice cream parlour and bookshop, which still raises quite a few eyebrows!
Elaine had always wanted to make luxury ice cream and open an ice cream parlour, but recognized the limitations of such a project in England’s unpredictable climate. A love of books combined with the desire to provide excellent service was given wings by the knowledge that Kirkham has an unusually high number of schools and families in and around a very small town. The additions of artisan Belgian chocolates, a wide range of greetings cards, and small gifts for all ages completed a vibrant shop for all ages and all pockets.
Both proprietors live locally and are proud and pleased to be a part of the local community. Now firmly established in the middle of Kirkham, SilverDell is often described as the focal point of the high street and 'the heart of the town'.
